Description
The CHIBrass Jacobs 2 is a mouthpiece that Mr. Jacobs loved and had slightly different versions. The original mouthpiece is believed to be a 30s era Helleberg, skeletonized at some point. Two copies were made, probably in the 1980’s, with skeletonization reversed and shanks enlarged. All three of these mouthpieces are owned by Mr. Jacobs’ assistant, Brian Frederiksen as a joint project with CHIBrass and Windsong Press to make this mouthpiece available to others and continue passing on Jacobs’ legacy of teaching, artistry, innovation and brass playing philosophy. The copies had a very odd shank size and the CHI Brass copies have updated the shank to work better with most post-1976 tubas. They are available in small shank (2A) (small American like the original Helleberg), or large shank (2). This is a great all-around mouthpiece that produces a wonderful clear high overtone rich sound on the large horns and makes a great Eb or F mouthpiece as well.
