Description

The CHI Brass JS Helleberg is a U.S. made precision copy of a mouthpiece that was owned by Arnold Jacobs and was passed on to a student of his. This mouthpiece was altered from its original state with rounding at the base of the cup and the rim made less sharp.  Jacobs had similar work done to many mouthpieces; however, most others were given to students and this one he kept for himself.  This mouthpiece plays wonderfully on the York-style horns with a big, burly sound and lots of fundamental in the low register and a signing quality in the upper range.  There are no photographs or records of how often, for what or even if Jacobs ever used it in the Orchestra and thus we make no such claims. We can say those that have tried the original have thought it was something special leading to the copies being made. It is quite a bit larger than the fine copy of Jacobs main mouthpiece currently available from another manufacturer.  For those needing a wider cup and bigger sound this may be what you have been searching for.
